Private psychological services and counselling are not covered through MSI. However, many extended medical plans provide coverage for psychological and counselling services (i.e., Blue Cross, Great West Life, SunLife, etc.). Please check with your insurance provider to determine if you have coverage for such services.
We offer direct billing for clients with Blue Cross, Veterans Affairs Canada, Workers Compensation Board, and with some Long-Term Disability claims. For all other clients, payment is required at the time of your appointment. We accept credit cards, interac, and cash. We will provide an official receipt that you can submit to your insurance company for reimbursement. Reimbursement with most insurance companies is often fast and straightforward.
Psychologist Fees
- Our Psychologists are registered with the Nova Scotia Board of Examiners in Psychology.
- Fees are set in consideration with the provincial association’s recommended rates.
- Our current fees are $200/hr. However, we will be implementing a 2-phase plan to more closely align with APNS’s recommended fees. Therefore, our fees will be increasing to $215/hr effective September 1, 2024. Part 2 of our 2-phase plan will continue on May 1, 2025, and fees for psychological services will be increased to $225/hr at this time.
- Appointment times are reserved just for you. Therefore, our office requires 24-hour notice if you’d like to cancel/reschedule your appointment. Insurance companies do not cover fees for missed appointments or late cancellations. For appointments scheduled on a Monday, they must be cancelled by noon on the preceding Friday. Failure to provide this notice will result in a 75% charge of the cost of the service.
Social Worker Fees
- Our Social Workers are registered with the Nova Scotia College of Social Workers (NSCSW), and have a Masters of Social Work.
- Fees are set in consideration with the NSCSW’s recommended rate of $175 per 50-minute session.
